Our mare,
named Lady Maria for the wind (from the Kingston Trio song, “They called
the wind Maria”), turned 35 in July 2003. We have had her since she was
4 months old. She is our middle child, a year older than our daughter.
She has always enjoyed running. Her father was a racer in Nebraska. She is also
unusual in the fact that she enjoys being ridden. We started her with a pony saddle
before she was a yearling, so she’s very comfortable with a saddle. She
always needed a strong rider to hold her back. Lady was aptly named, as she loves
to run like the wind.
She had been slowing down over the last couple of years, but in July 2003, we
noticed that she didn’t want to move very much and was favoring one front
foot. She has soft, white hooves and has from time to time gotten a stone bruise,
so I cleaned the hoof and soaked her foot in warm water. This year the soaking
didn’t solve the problem. By the middle of August, we thought we were going
to have to put her down; she was in such bad shape. Her farrier said he thought
she had arthritis in her shoulder and suggested using a painkiller, so I called
her veterinarian. He said at her age he didn’t recommend it and suggested
using glucosamine. I said, “Do you mean like humans take for arthritis”?
He said he didn’t carry it, so I went on-line and found several sites.
When I discovered the Newmarket Joint Supplement site, it was great. I called
immediately and placed an order. I began the regular dosage on August 13, 2003
and within a few days, she was walking much better. About 3 weeks after her first
dose, I looked out the window to see her running full out, neck arched, tail high,
along the fence line. She looked so proud of herself!! She has been running on
a regular basis now and is a very happy horse thanks to Newmarket Joint Supplement
and H & H Supplements.
I highly recommend Newmarket Joint Supplement. Every horse owner should visit
the site: www.jointsupplement.com.
